Nkob rarely has a rental car to collect on the spot, so most travelers rent in Ouarzazate, Zagora or Tinghir. This guide explains what to compare, what to confirm in writing and how to prepare the drive.
Nkob is a small village of ksour and kasbahs on the southern side of Jbel Saghro, in Zagora province in south-eastern Morocco. Do not count on collecting a rental car in Nkob itself: most travelers pick up a car in a larger town such as Ouarzazate, Zagora or Tinghir and drive on from there. This guide explains where to start, what to compare and confirm in writing, and how to prepare the drive.
Whether you are a tourist exploring the kasbahs of the south, a Moroccan living abroad visiting family, or a local or business traveler, a car lets you reach Nkob and move around the area at your own pace.
Nkob sits on the N12 road, between the Drâa Valley and the routes towards Tazzarine and the Tafilalt. The village is known for its many kasbahs, palm groves and its position at the foot of Jbel Saghro, a popular area for hiking. Guesthouses, viewpoints and trailheads are spread out around the village.
Public transport options in this rural area are limited, so check them locally if you plan to travel without a car. With your own vehicle you can stop at viewpoints, combine Nkob with Agdz, Zagora or Tinghir, and arrive at your guesthouse when it suits you.
Choose based on your arrival point, your first night and how much driving you want to do on day one. If an agency offers delivery to Nkob or a return in another town, have it confirmed in writing together with any extra cost.
| Vehicle type | Typical use | What to confirm in writing |
|---|---|---|
| Small car | Couples, light luggage, paved roads | Mileage, fuel policy, luggage space |
| Mid-size car | Two to four travelers, longer days on the road | Total price, insurance cover and deductible |
| SUV / 4x4 | Families, more luggage, tracks where allowed | Whether unpaved tracks are permitted by the contract |
| Van | Groups, extra luggage or equipment | Number of seats, additional drivers |
A standard car is usually chosen for paved national roads. If you plan to use tracks around Jbel Saghro or to reach a remote guesthouse, ask the agency in writing whether that use is allowed and what the insurance covers in that case. Otherwise, consider a guided excursion with a local operator.
Read every offer before you pay and ask for the conditions in writing (email, contract or booking summary). Compare:
As an indication only, RentalMe's customer budget range is about 100–700 DH per day, depending on the vehicle, season and agency. It is not a quote: the price that counts is the one in the agency's written offer.
Requirements vary by agency, so confirm them before your trip. Agencies usually ask for a valid driving licence, a passport or national ID card, and a payment method in the main driver's name. Ask about the minimum age, how long you must have held your licence, and whether your licence is accepted as it is.
Ask for a written summary of the insurance cover, the deductible and the situations that are excluded. Do not assume that a card or travel insurance from home automatically covers a rental in Morocco: check with the issuer and keep the confirmation.
Common approaches are from Ouarzazate via Agdz and the Drâa Valley, from Zagora, or from the Tinghir side. Some travelers combine Nkob with Merzouga as part of a longer loop. Check the current route and road conditions with the agency, your guesthouse or local sources before you leave, especially for mountain crossings and secondary roads. For more ideas, see the road trip planning guide.
RentalMe is a marketplace being developed to connect renters with professional rental agencies in Morocco. RentalMe is not the agency: the rental contract is between you and the agency you choose, which manages its vehicles and sets its conditions. Bookings are not open yet. To stay informed, you can join the RentalMe waitlist; signing up is not a booking.

Do not count on it. It is more realistic to collect a car in Ouarzazate, Zagora, Agdz or Tinghir. If an agency offers delivery to Nkob, have it confirmed in writing with the cost.
Not necessarily for paved roads. For tracks, you need a suitable vehicle and the agency's written permission; otherwise consider an excursion with a local operator.

Once your dates and pickup town are fixed, ask several agencies for written offers and check how long each offer remains valid.
