Foum Zguid rarely has a rental car to collect on the spot, so most travelers rent in Marrakech, Ouarzazate or Zagora. This guide explains what to compare, what to confirm in writing and how to prepare the desert drive.
Foum Zguid is a town in southern Morocco, south-west of Zagora, known as a gateway to Lake Iriqui and the Erg Chigaga dunes. If you are looking for car rental for Foum Zguid, keep in mind that you usually do not collect the car in town: most travelers rent in a larger city or at an airport and then drive south.
A rental car lets you leave when you want, stop where the landscape deserves it and combine Foum Zguid with other southern stops such as Zagora, Tazenakht or M'Hamid.
RentalMe is a Moroccan marketplace that connects people looking for a vehicle with professional rental agencies. RentalMe does not own or supply the cars itself and is not a peer-to-peer rental platform: each agency manages its own vehicles and sets its conditions, insurance and security deposit.
It is best to collect the vehicle where the choice of agencies and categories is wider, then continue south.
If an agency offers delivery to Foum Zguid or a return in another city, get it confirmed in writing in advance, including any extra charges.
The choice mainly depends on one question: will you stay on paved roads, or are you thinking of driving on tracks?
| Category | For whom | Advantages | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|---|
| City car / compact | Solo or couple, light luggage | Lower rental price, low fuel use | Less space and comfort on long drives |
| SUV / crossover | More comfort, secondary roads | Higher ground clearance, more luggage space | Higher price and fuel use |
| 4x4 | Tracks, only if the agency allows it | Suited to difficult surfaces | Off-road use to be confirmed in the contract |
| MPV / minibus | Large families or groups | Many seats and luggage | Higher rate, harder to manoeuvre |
Driving on desert tracks must be authorised in writing by the agency. If you have no experience driving on sand, consider an excursion with local operators instead of leaving the tarmac with the rental car.
Requirements and documents are set by each agency. Before booking, ask:
If you are unsure whether your licence is valid in Morocco, check an official source before you travel. Keep a digital and paper copy of the booking, the contract and the agency's contact details.
Before pick-up, clarify all the financial points in writing:
As non-binding guidance, the budget for a rental is around 100–700 dirhams per day, depending on vehicle category, season, agency and the actual offer. This is not a quote: only the agency's written offer for your dates shows the real price.
Cover, deductible and exclusions vary from one agency to another. Do not assume the basic cover suits your route.
If you want to rely on cover from your card or another insurer, ask them whether your rental is included.
If you want to continue to another desert gateway, read the guide to car rental in M'Hamid.
RentalMe connects renters with professional rental agencies. The rental relationship is always between you and the agency you choose, which manages its fleet and sets its conditions.
RentalMe is preparing its public launch. To stay informed, you can join the RentalMe waitlist; signing up is not a booking or a payment.

Marrakech, Ouarzazate and Zagora are common starting points. Choose based on where you arrive and your route: the closer to the south you start, the fewer hours you will drive.
Do not count on it. It is more realistic to collect the car in a larger city. If an agency offers delivery to Foum Zguid, have it confirmed in writing with the related cost.
As an indication, between 100 and 700 dirhams per day, depending on category, season, agency and the actual offer. The final price can change with optional insurance, extra fees or a return in another city.
Not necessarily for paved roads. For tracks you need a suitable vehicle and the agency's written authorisation; alternatively, consider an excursion with local operators.
Call the assistance number given in the contract, take photos of the situation and follow the instructions of the agency and the authorities. Keep all documents.
