Landing at Ouarzazate Airport? Learn how to compare professional rental agencies on RentalMe, choose between a city car, SUV or 4x4 for the Atlas and the valleys, and what to check at pick-up and return.
Renting a car is the most flexible way to explore southern Morocco, and Ouarzazate Airport puts you right at the doorstep of some of the country's most dramatic landscapes. From the airport you can set off towards Ait Ben Haddou, the Skoura palm grove, the Dades and Draa valleys and the High Atlas passes at your own pace, without depending on tours or timetables. Car rental at Ouarzazate Airport is straightforward once you know how the process works.
RentalMe is a Moroccan online marketplace that connects travelers with professional local car rental agencies in Ouarzazate and across Morocco. RentalMe does not own vehicles and is not a rental agency: it helps you find, compare and book a vehicle from independent agencies in one place. Here is what that means for you:
Compare offers from several professional agencies without contacting each one separately
Choose between car categories such as city cars, sedans, SUVs, 4x4s and vans
Arrange a pick-up at Ouarzazate Airport or at an agency office in town, depending on what each agency offers
See each agency's conditions before you book
Budget: rental prices in Morocco generally range from 100 DH to 700 DH per day, depending on vehicle category, season and agency.
RentalMe brings together the offers of professional rental agencies so you can search, compare and reserve a vehicle without visiting each agency individually. You choose Ouarzazate as your location, enter your travel dates and launch your search. The results show the vehicles that partner agencies have available for those dates, with each agency's own conditions.
Pick-up at the airport or at an office in Ouarzazate city depends on the agency you select, so read the pick-up details in the offer before you confirm. Once your booking is made, the rental contract itself, the handover of the vehicle and its return are handled directly by the professional agency you chose. If your trip starts with an overnight stay in Ouarzazate, a city pick-up the next morning can be just as practical as collecting the car at the terminal.
The car you choose around Ouarzazate matters. Mountain roads climb through hairpin bends, some tracks towards remote kasbahs ask for more ground clearance, and longer tours need room for luggage or photography gear. Agencies in Ouarzazate typically list several vehicle categories, so match the car to your itinerary.
| Category | Best for |
|---|---|
| City car | Solo travelers or couples staying mostly on paved roads |
| Compact sedan | Routes between Ouarzazate, Ait Ben Haddou and the Draa valley with more luggage space |
| SUV / 4x4 | Mountain passes, gorges and rougher access roads |
| Van / minivan | Families, groups and film crews with equipment |
City cars are easy to park and economical for short visits. A compact sedan offers more comfort on the paved routes towards Skoura, Kalaat M'Gouna or Zagora. For the Atlas passes, the Todra and Dades gorges, or any section where you expect rougher access roads, an SUV or a true 4x4 gives you the clearance and confidence you need. If you are traveling with a larger group, a van gives everyone room, but keep in mind that narrow mountain roads can be trickier with a wider vehicle.
Before you choose, think about your number of passengers, your luggage, your planned routes (mostly paved or partly off-road) and whether you prefer a manual or automatic gearbox.
Where you collect the car depends on the agency. Some agencies arrange a handover at Ouarzazate Airport, others ask you to come to their office in the city. The pick-up location and any instructions are stated in the offer on RentalMe, so check them against your arrival time before you book, and tell the agency your flight details if the offer asks for them.
At pick-up, have your booking confirmation and the documents the agency requested ready. Walk around the vehicle with the agent, note any existing scratches or marks on the check-out document and take photos. Check the fuel level and the spare wheel before you set off, especially if you are heading into the mountains or the desert.
When you return the car, arrive a little early, bring it back with the fuel level agreed with the agency and photograph the fuel gauge and the bodywork. Go through the vehicle with the agent, agree on its condition and keep your copy of the return document. Drop-off follows the same logic as pick-up, at the airport or in town, as arranged with the agency.
Each agency sets its own conditions, and RentalMe shows them in the offer so you can spot them before you arrive at the counter. Before you confirm, read the fuel policy, the mileage policy, the insurance description, the deposit rules and the cancellation conditions of the agency. If you need extras such as a child seat or an additional driver, check whether the agency offers them and what they cost, and request them when you book.
The rental contract is concluded between you and the agency you chose. RentalMe presents the agency's price and conditions as clearly as possible, but it does not set those conditions itself. If anything in an offer is unclear, compare it with other agencies' offers for the same dates before you decide.
