Want to reach Oukaimeden for snow or mountain hikes on your own schedule? Learn how to compare and book a car from professional agencies on RentalMe. With vehicle advice, mountain driving tips and FAQ.
Oukaimeden is a mountain and ski area in the High Atlas, reached from Marrakech. Car rental for Oukaimeden is the simplest way to get there on your own schedule: chase the snow in winter, hike mountain trails in summer and stop wherever the views deserve it. In this guide you'll find how to book with RentalMe, which vehicle to choose, what to check before the mountain drive and practical tips for the day.
Yes, for most travelers. A rental car from Marrakech lets you leave early, avoid the fixed schedules of group transfers and combine your trip with stops in the Ourika Valley or Berber villages along the way. The drive itself is one of the highlights: the road leaves the plains and climbs into dramatic mountain scenery.
Most visitors pick up their car in Marrakech, at the airport or in the city, which makes it the natural starting point whether you fly in or are already staying near the medina.
Best for: independent travelers, photographers, skiers and hikers who want a flexible day trip from Marrakech to the Atlas Mountains.

Budget: rental prices generally range from 100 DH to 700 DH per day, depending on the vehicle category, the season and the agency.
Before booking, decide on your dates and times (with a buffer for the weather), the pick-up and return location, the number of drivers, manual or automatic transmission and the space you need for luggage and equipment. Weekends, school holidays and the ski season are busy periods, so plan ahead.

Marrakech is the starting point for an Oukaimeden trip. Choose the pick-up point that suits your plans, as agreed with the agency.
Your choice depends on the season, the number of passengers and your equipment. In winter, ask the agency about the road conditions and the equipment fitted to the car before choosing a category.
| Category | Ideal for | Advantage |
|---|---|---|
| City car / compact | Couples, solo travelers, light luggage | Nimble and economical |
| Compact SUV / crossover | Families, extra gear | More space and a higher driving position |
| 4x4 | Winter trips, ski equipment | Extra ground clearance and traction |
| Minivan / 7-seater | Groups and large families | Maximum space for passengers and luggage |
The road quickly leaves the city behind, crosses greener valleys and then climbs into the mountains, with winding sections and changes in altitude. In winter, snow or ice can affect the upper part of the road.
A careful inspection in Marrakech helps avoid misunderstandings at return.
Tip: photograph the bodywork, interior, mileage and fuel level together with the agency staff member before you leave.
Rental conditions vary from one agency to another. Always read the details of each offer on RentalMe and ask questions if anything is unclear. Pay particular attention to:
Many travelers combine the Ourika Valley and Oukaimeden on the same day or over two days. Start early from Marrakech, enjoy the valley villages and riverside cafés in the morning, then continue to Oukaimeden if the weather and daylight allow.
With a few extra days, you can also explore Imlil, at the foot of the Atlas, with the same car.

Many drivers manage with a compact car in good weather on a dry road. An SUV or 4x4 offers more ground clearance, stability and room for equipment, which is useful in winter. Ask the agency about road conditions and compare both options on RentalMe.
Yes, it's the most common way to do it. Leave Marrakech early, spend the day at the resort or hiking, and come back before dark, with some extra time for weather changes.
