A rental car in Marrakech means going beyond the medina: the Atlas, the Ourika valley, the Agafay desert or Essaouira for the day. Local agencies offer city cars, saloons and 4x4s suited to mountain roads.
Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) is only about 6 km from the centre, one of the closest in the country. Handing over the keys at the terminal is common and quick.
Marrakech railway station, the end of the line from Casablanca, sits in the Hivernage district, and several agencies deliver there.
The new town gathers hotels, restaurants and rental agencies. Driving and parking are easier here than around the medina: it is the simplest place to pick up a car in town.
The medina's alleys are not for cars: if your riad is inside, arrange the pickup at one of its gates, near Bab Doukkala or the Koutoubia, and walk the rest of the way with your luggage.
To the north-east, the Palmeraie gathers villas and hotels a few kilometres from the centre; to the south, the Ourika road leads to guesthouses in the Atlas foothills. Outside the city, a rental car is handier than taxis.
Many travellers have the car delivered to their hotel: delivery, when the agency offers it, and its price are shown before you book.
To the south, the Ourika road climbs to Berber villages and the Setti Fatma waterfalls; Imlil, at the foot of Toubkal, is the starting point for High Atlas treks.
The N9 crosses the High Atlas over the Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260 m) before dropping to Aït Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate, about 200 km away: a mountain road best driven in daylight.
Essaouira and its ramparts are about 190 km west, along a road lined with argan trees; the Agafay desert and Lalla Takerkoust lake are closer, less than an hour's drive.
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best seasons for the road: the city is mild and the Atlas passes are clear. In summer the heat often passes 40 °C; in winter, snow can close the Tizi n'Tichka for a while. The year-end and spring holidays are in high demand: book early for the widest choice.
Ideal for the city centre and short trips: easy to park and light on fuel, it is often the cheapest rental.
More comfort and a bigger boot for the motorway, a business trip or a stay with luggage.
For families, the mountains or dirt tracks: more space, higher ground clearance and up to 7 seats.
For a move, equipment to carry or getting around town, agencies also rent vans and two-wheelers.
Search filters sort listings by category, transmission, fuel or number of seats, to match your needs.
Each agency sets its own daily price: it varies with the season, the model and the length of the rental, and often drops for a week or more. The total, service fee included, is shown before you book.
The deposit is shown on every listing and in search results: an amount held at pickup and returned with the car, or "No deposit" when the agency asks for none.
The agency's conditions — minimum driver age (often 21), years with a licence, late-return fees — are shown before you book. Cancellation follows one RentalMe rule, the same for every agency: free up to 72 hours before pick-up and within an hour of acceptance. For the insurance included and the excess, ask the agency.
At pickup, check the car over with the agency, photograph it from every side and note the fuel level and the mileage; at return, bring it back in the same condition. Ask about the fuel policy too: with “full to full”, you return the tank full, as you received it.
It depends on the season, the model and the length of the rental. Compact cars are the cheapest, and daily rates usually drop for a week or more. Prices on RentalMe are per day and set by each agency.
Yes. Most agencies deliver to the airport (RAK). Add your flight number so the agency can track your arrival.
A valid driving licence (often held for at least 2 years), an ID card or passport, and a bank card for the deposit. Each agency's exact conditions are shown before you book.
Most agencies ask for a deposit, shown on the listing. On RentalMe your card is only held — nothing is charged until the agency accepts your request.
Yes: cancellation is free up to 72 hours before pick-up, and within an hour of the agency accepting; nothing is charged before it accepts. The rule is the same for every agency on RentalMe.
Yes, some agencies rent cars with no deposit: their listings say "No deposit", and the Deposit filter in search shows only those.
A city car is enough for town and short trips. For the motorway, the mountains or a family stay, choose a saloon, an SUV or a 7-seater.
Yes, depending on the agency: the Transmission filter in search shows only cars with an automatic gearbox.
In high season — summer, school holidays and festivities — book several weeks ahead; the rest of the year a few days is often enough. The earlier you book, the wider the choice.
At Marrakech-Menara airport, in town (Guéliz, Hivernage) or delivered to your hotel or riad, depending on the agency's options shown before you book.
The Agafay desert is less than an hour away by road; for Merzouga or Zagora, much further, choose an SUV or a 4x4 and ask the agency whether dirt tracks are allowed.
A city car is enough for Marrakech and the road to Essaouira; for the Tizi n'Tichka, Ourika or dirt tracks, an SUV or a more powerful car makes the climbs more comfortable.
