Planning to drive to Taliouine? This guide explains where to collect a rental car and which category suits the Anti-Atlas roads. It also lists what to confirm with the agency before you leave.
Taliouine is a small town in Taroudant province, in the Anti-Atlas mountains, known for its saffron fields. Car rental for a Taliouine trip is the simplest way to reach the town, stop in the villages around it and continue towards Taroudant, Ouarzazate or other Anti-Atlas towns at your own pace. This guide explains where to collect the car, which category to choose, what to confirm with the agency and how to plan a realistic budget.
This guide is mainly for:
RentalMe is a Moroccan marketplace that connects renters with professional rental agencies. RentalMe is not an agency and does not own the cars: each offer is published by an agency with its own conditions. If you are starting from the Souss plain, our guide to car rental in Taroudant is a good companion to this page.
Rental options in Taliouine itself may be limited, so many renters collect the car in a larger city on their route and drive in on the N10 road. Common starting points:
Returning the car to the city where you collected it is usually the simplest option. If you want to collect it in Agadir and return it in Ouarzazate (or the reverse), ask the agency in writing whether a one-way return is possible and what it costs before you book.
If you arrive early in the morning or late at night, agree on the handover time with the agency before booking.
The right category depends on your route, the number of passengers and your luggage.
| Category | Suitable for | Points to check |
|---|---|---|
| City car / economy | Solo travelers or couples on main roads | Luggage space, air conditioning, tyres |
| Compact / sedan | Longer drives between cities | Boot size, number of seats, permitted routes |
| SUV / crossover | Mountain roads, rural detours, more space | Whether unpaved roads are allowed in the contract, fuel type |
| Van / people carrier | Families or groups with a lot of luggage | Parking on narrow streets, licence category, fuel |
Whatever you choose, check in the contract whether driving on unpaved tracks is allowed, and check that the air conditioning works before you leave.
As an indication, a rental car in Morocco generally costs between 100 and 700 DH per day, depending on the vehicle category, the season, the agency and the actual offer. This range is not a quote: the final price is the one shown in the offer you choose.
To compare offers fairly, look at the same items each time: mileage included, fuel policy, deposit, insurance included and possible extra charges.
Taliouine can be visited all year. Many travelers come for the saffron harvest in autumn, when the flowers appear in the fields; dates change from year to year, so check them locally before you plan around them. If your trip falls during a busy period or school holidays, compare offers and book early rather than waiting until the last moment.
Outside the harvest, the drive is still a good way to discover the Anti-Atlas landscapes and the villages of the area.
A car gives you access to villages, viewpoints and cultural stops that are harder to reach without one.
Practical tips:
With a car, you can stop at your own pace in the area around the town.
Conditions vary from one agency to another. Before confirming, check the written offer for:
Keep a copy of the confirmed conditions with you during the trip.

Many renters collect the car in a larger city on their route, such as Agadir (city or airport), Taroudant or Ouarzazate, then drive to Taliouine. Compare the collection points offered by the agencies.
A city car or compact car can be enough on main roads. An SUV gives more comfort and space on mountain roads; check in the contract which roads are allowed.
Check the condition of the car, the fuel level, the mileage, the documents in the car and the agreed conditions: mileage, deposit, insurance and return.
