Planning to visit the Rissani souk and the Erg Chebbi dunes? This guide explains where to collect a rental car and which category to choose. It also lists what to confirm with the agency before you set off.
Rissani is a small town in the Tafilalet region of south-eastern Morocco, between Erfoud and Merzouga, on the way to the Erg Chebbi dunes. A car rental for Rissani lets you visit the souk, the surrounding ksour and the desert on your own schedule. This guide covers where to collect the car, which category to choose, what to check in the agency's conditions and an indicative budget.
With a car you can plan the day the way you like: the Rissani souk in the morning, a stop at a ksar or a palm grove, then sunset towards the dunes. You do not depend on shuttles, taxis or tours with fixed times.
RentalMe is a Moroccan marketplace that connects renters with professional rental agencies, so you can compare the available offers before you travel. The main advantages:
The rental offer in Rissani itself may be limited, so it is worth looking at nearby towns too and checking the offers available for your dates:
Merzouga is mainly a place to stay near the dunes; if you want to consider that option too, read our guide to car rental in Merzouga.
Collection and return locations and times depend on the agency. Returning the car in another city is not a standard service: if you need it, check that it is included in the written conditions of the offer and at what cost.
The right category depends on your route, the number of passengers and your luggage.
| Category | Best for | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| City car or compact | Two people with light luggage | Boot space, manual or automatic gearbox, air conditioning |
| Saloon or family car | Families and longer legs | Seats, boot space, child seats if needed |
| SUV | Travelers who want more comfort and ground clearance | That the roads on your route are authorised by the contract |
| 4x4 | Travelers planning unpaved tracks | That off-road use is explicitly allowed by the contract |
| MPV or minivan | Larger groups | Seats, luggage and the offer's conditions |
Many contracts restrict use of the vehicle on unpaved roads, tracks and sand: before booking, ask the agency which roads are authorised for your route.
RentalMe is not a rental agency and does not own the cars: it connects renters with professional agencies. The rental contract is between you and the agency you choose. Here is how to proceed:

Conditions vary from one agency to another. Before confirming, ask for written confirmation of these points:
Keep a summary of the offer and have it to hand at collection.
A rental car makes it easy to include Rissani in a trip through south-eastern Morocco. An example to adapt to your own pace:
If you are coming from further away, for example from Marrakech or Fez, and want to return the car in another city, check this with the agency before booking.
As a rough guide, the indicative budget is 100–700 DH (Moroccan dirhams) per day, depending on the vehicle category, the season, the agency and the actual offer. It is not a quote, nor a guaranteed minimum or maximum price. Before confirming, check every cost item in the offer: car, extras, deposit, fuel and mileage.
The offer in Rissani may be limited. Also compare offers with collection in Erfoud, Errachidia city or Errachidia airport, and check the location and times in the agency's conditions.
It depends on your route, passengers and luggage. For unpaved tracks, first check with the agency that using the vehicle on those roads is allowed.
The indicative budget is 100–700 DH per day, depending on category, season, agency and the actual offer. The final price is the one shown in the offer you choose.
Documents, deposit and accepted payment methods are set by the agency: read them in the written conditions of the offer before booking.
