Figuig rarely has a rental desk of its own, so most renters collect a car in Oujda or another larger city. This guide explains what to compare, what to confirm with the agency and how to prepare the long drive.
Figuig is a remote oasis town in the Oriental region of eastern Morocco, and reaching it by car is a long but rewarding road trip. Whether you are a tourist looking for a desert-edge escape, a Moroccan living abroad visiting family, or a business traveler with work in the region, this car rental Figuig guide explains how to arrange, compare and prepare a rental car for the journey.
Do not count on finding a rental desk in Figuig itself. Most renters collect a car in a larger city and drive on to the oasis. The Oujda car rental guide is a good planning base; this article adapts its advice to the long journey ahead.
The usual process looks like this:
RentalMe is a Moroccan marketplace that connects renters with professional rental agencies. It does not own vehicles and is not a private-owner platform: each agency sets its own prices and conditions.
As a non-binding indication, plan for roughly 100–700 DH (dirhams) per day depending on vehicle category, season, agency and the actual offer. This is not a quote or a guarantee.
Figuig lies deep in the Oriental region, far from Morocco's large tourist hubs. Travelers therefore usually rent from a bigger city where professional agencies keep their fleets.
The most common scenarios are:
Compare town and airport pickup offers, because conditions can differ. Ask the agency whether returning the car in a different city is allowed and what that costs. Try to collect the car in daylight so the inspection is relaxed. Do not assume an agency can deliver a car to Figuig: plan to collect and return it in a larger city unless the agency confirms otherwise in writing.
The drive from the Oujda area to Figuig is long. That favors a comfortable, reliable car rather than the smallest possible vehicle, especially with family members or plenty of luggage.
Air conditioning and the safety equipment listed in the offer matter more on long distances. An automatic can be more relaxing on unfamiliar roads, but check which gearbox the offer actually includes. Choose the fuel type you are used to, and check where you can refuel along your planned route.
| Category | Example use toward Figuig | Pros | Possible drawbacks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small city/economy car | Solo traveler, short visit on a budget | Lower cost, easy to park | Limited luggage space, less comfort on long drives |
| Compact hatchback | Couple with light luggage | Balance of cost and comfort | Can feel cramped after several hours |
| Mid-size sedan | Family or business trip | Comfortable ride, decent boot space | Less ground clearance on rough patches |
| SUV / crossover | Group with luggage, mixed road surfaces | More clearance and space | Higher daily rate and fuel use |
| Minivan / people carrier | Large family or group | Maximum passenger capacity | Harder to park in narrow streets |
For a long trip to Figuig, a mid-size car or an SUV often brings more comfort than the cheapest category. Check that the vehicle category and the insurance terms match the roads you actually plan to use.
On a long journey, the details of an offer matter as much as the daily rate. Compare:
Ask whether the contract restricts travel to particular regions or roads. Keep copies of every offer and confirmation on your phone, and ask the agency for an emergency or assistance number before you leave.
Requirements vary from one agency to another, so confirm them in each company's written terms:
Ask in advance about additional drivers or business rentals. Check legal obligations with up-to-date official sources rather than relying on a general guide.
For the long route toward Figuig, read carefully what the insurance and mileage terms include:
Estimate the total distance of your trip, then choose an offer with unlimited mileage or an allowance comfortably above it. Settle any questions about insurance, deposit or mileage before signing, ideally in writing.
A calm, well-prepared itinerary makes the long drive through eastern Morocco safer and more enjoyable.

RentalMe is a Moroccan marketplace that connects renters with professional rental agencies. It does not run its own fleet and is not a peer-to-peer platform: each agency manages its vehicles, sets its own terms and confirms or declines bookings. Availability, conditions, age requirements, insurance and deposit rules depend on each agency and its offer.
RentalMe is preparing its public launch. If you would like to hear about it, you can join the RentalMe waitlist; signing up is neither a booking nor a payment.
Find more destination guides on the RentalMe blog and on the RentalMe website. Whichever agency you choose, keep your communication with it in writing.
Do not count on it. Travelers usually rent in a larger city such as Oujda, where professional agencies are based, and collect and return the car there.
A comfortable compact car, sedan or SUV with air conditioning, depending on the number of passengers and the luggage. Check that the insurance terms match the roads you plan to use.
As a non-binding indication, plan for roughly 100–700 DH per day depending on vehicle category, season, agency and the actual offer. Only the agency's written quote for your dates gives the real price.
It helps. A round trip to Figuig plus local driving is long, so unlimited mileage or a generous allowance avoids surprises.
That depends on the agency's policy. One-way returns may cost extra and must be agreed in the written contract before you pay.
A well-prepared car rental turns the journey to Figuig into a memorable trip to one of Morocco's most striking corners. Take your time, confirm everything in writing, and explore the oasis at your own pace.
